Our History

Hope Beyond Borders was founded by Katalina Sanchez, a migrant from Colombia who moved to Spain with her mother and later relocated to the UK on her own to pursue  a career in Sociology and Criminology before earning a Master’s degree in International Relations. With over five years of experience in the field, Katalina has dedicated her career to addressing the unique challenges faced by vulnerable populations.

Her roles at Citizens Advice, the Trussell Trust’s helpline have equipped her with invaluable experience in supporting individuals facing financial hardship and navigating complex global issues. During the pandemic, she worked remotely as an English teacher assistant for refugee children at Action Foundation and she has been actively helping Spanish speakers in the UK with social welfare and housing support. Additionally, her role as a social educator assistant in Brazil, working with vulnerable youth and children, provided her with crucial insights into the challenges faced by these groups of people Worldwide.

As a mother and through her travels, Katalina became acutely aware of the pressing needs of children and youth worldwide, particularly those affected by poverty and a lack of sustainable knowledge. This realization highlighted the urgent need to support these vulnerable groups, whose future foundations are most at risk. Due to her own background as a migrant, Katalina also recognizes the need for young people and children in Europe, especially in the North East of England, to receive support with their mental health and social integration but also the importance of supporting children and their families in developing countries to trackle poverty.
