Our Vision
At Hope Beyond Borders, we strive to enhance the wellbeing, safety, and integration of children, young people, and families especially those facing instability, trauma, and complex challenges such as domestic abuse, family breakdown, bereavement, parental imprisonment, substance misuse, caring responsibilities, immigration and neglect. We understand that these experiences deeply affect emotional and physical development, relationships, education, and long-term opportunities.
Our mission is to provide enriching and transformational support that strengthens safety, resilience, personal growth, and overall welfare. This includes education, hygiene, nutrition, emotional wellbeing, and access to vital resources.
We also recognise that social welfare and environmental sustainability are deeply interconnected. Through our commitment to Green Welfare, we help families, children, and young people adopt sustainable, environmentally friendly practices that support both personal wellbeing and the health of our planet. By fostering climate change awareness and encouraging responsible choices, we aim to create stronger, healthier communities today while securing a better future for generations to come.
Our History
About the Founder
Hope Beyond Borders was founded by Katalina Sánchez, a Colombian migrant whose personal journey shaped a deep commitment to supporting children, young people, and families. After moving to Spain as a child and later relocating to the UK on her own, Katalina pursued studies in Sociology, Criminology, and International Relations, experiences that opened her eyes to the realities of inequality, poverty, and social exclusion.
Her professional path led her through roles at Citizens Advice, the Trussell Trust’s helpline, and refugee education projects during the pandemic. She also worked with vulnerable children and youth in Brazil, gaining global insight into the barriers many families face. Over time, the need for a community centred, compassionate organisation became undeniable.
Katalina founded Hope Beyond Borders to create a place where families feel understood, supported, and empowered. As a mother and as a migrant, she is driven by the belief that everyone deserves safety, opportunity, and connection both socially and environmentally.
Our Team
Hope Beyond Borders is powered by a passionate team whose diverse expertise strengthens our mission every day. Among them is Lisseth Moreno, a nutritionist and scientist dedicated to helping families lead healthier lives through education and lifestyle support. Her work inspires a deeper understanding of wellbeing, nutrition, and active living across our community.
We are also guided by Nelly Tenorio, a business administrator who arrived in the UK as a refugee. Her lived experience brings empathy, cultural understanding, and practical insight to our work with migrant families. She ensures that our support remains inclusive, accessible, and respectful of the challenges many newcomers face.
Alongside the core team, Hope Beyond Borders is supported by ten committed volunteers, each contributing unique skills and experiences. They help us deliver welfare support, digital literacy assistance, environmental projects, and community-building activities. Their dedication strengthens our ability to reach families in need and to foster a community where everyone belongs.
Together, we form a collective devoted to improving lives, nurturing wellbeing, and building a more inclusive and sustainable future for children, young people, and their families.
